About this over-edge utility hook

A removable, no-drill 3D printed hook or towel holder made to fit over the edge of a cabinet door, bathroom door, shower-glass panel, shelf or divider. The curved J and U options give it the side profile commonly called an S hook. Enter the measured edge, then size its reach, drop, retaining tip and bend without learning CAD.

What people make with it

  • Shower-glass towel hook with the U hook profile and clearance for a smooth glass panel.
  • Workshop divider hook with the Square hook profile for a cord or small hand tool.
  • Cupboard-door kitchen hook with the J hook profile for a tea towel or lightweight utensil.

Measure the actual edge before printing. Paint, seals and protective pads all change the fit.

What you can change

  • Door / panel fit. A measured door or panel from 3 to 50 mm thick, plus 0.4 to 3 mm of sliding clearance.
  • Hook shape. Choose a J hook, rounded U hook or Square hook for the item being held.
  • Reach and drop. A 60 to 120 mm projection, 75 to 160 mm overall height, and a 25 to 60 mm mounting drop.
  • Body. A hook 15 to 50 mm wide, with a 3.2 to 6 mm body, an 8 to 30 mm retaining tip and a 2 to 20 mm J/U bend radius.

Printing it

  • It prints flat on its side, so the hook profile is built in continuous layers and needs no supports.
  • Use a material and wall settings appropriate to the expected temperature and everyday handling.
  • This is a light-duty organizer, not rated lifting hardware. Test it low over a soft surface before regular use.
  • Choose your printer and the editor checks that the model fits its bed.

Common questions

How much clearance should I add?

Start with 0.8 mm for a rigid print. Increase it for a rough surface, paint, a protective pad or a printer that tends to make inside gaps tight.

Will it scratch glass or furniture?

Printed plastic can mark a surface if grit is trapped underneath or the hook rocks. Smooth the contact faces and add a thin non-slip protective pad where needed.

Can the door still close with the hook fitted?

Only if there is enough space between the top of the door and its frame for the printed bridge. Measure that gap before printing. Rebated, weather-sealed, fire-rated and close-fitting doors may not be suitable.

Can I hang a plant or other heavy object from it?

No load rating is provided. Geometry, print direction, material, temperature and panel strength all affect failure. Use this Template only for light-duty organization.

Do I need an account?

No. You can generate and download without one. An account keeps saved configurations so you can return to them.
