About this model
Nuno João designed this wallet from the ground up in OpenSCAD, after printing and liking Natalucciu's SDCardWallet. He set out to make it as compact as possible and added a lock that keeps it closed, which he opened and closed more than 160 times on one print without any loss of function.
Each of its four slots holds one full-size SD card, kept down by a small spring printed as part of the wallet and by chamfers on two opposite sides. The creator's repository also has other wallet sizes, and the OpenSCAD files to make a layout of your own.
What you need
From the creator’s instructionsIn this download
- The assembled 2 × 2 wallet, with print-in-place hinges, lock and card springs
Nothing else to buy: the download prints complete.
Before printing
- Print it as it is: it prints already assembled, with its hinges, lock and card springs in one piece.
- Use no supports. The creator advises a layer height of at least 0.2 mm.
- The creator printed it in PLA on a Creality Ender 3 Pro, and says Cura's default Standard Quality (0.2 mm) settings should print it fine.
How to use it
- Once it is off the bed, hold it with your fingers near or on each hinge and slowly force it closed until the hinge breaks free and starts to turn.
- Gently push each card spring at its tip until it comes free from the floor of its slot.
- Slide in your SD cards; each spring holds its card down. For microSD cards, use a microSD-to-SD adapter.
- The springs give a little the first time they are used, which the creator says is expected.
